Two warplanes of the Air Force approached two Russian bombers that were flying in international airspace near Alaska, the North American Aerospace Command reported. NORAD said it was able to identify, track, intercept, and positively identify the two Tu-95 Bear-H bombers that now operate within the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
Areas with airspace designated for aircraft identification, location, and control for the purpose of protecting national security are designated as Identification, Location, and Control (ID/LOC/C) Air Defense Identification Zones (ADIZ).
